Hi! Welcome back to the forum! I don't post here very often anymore, but I do drop by several times a week. At least I try to, ha ha. Oh & also welcome to the joys of The Sims 2. Much better graphics & I bet you love the close-ups of your Simmies.

Anyway, I guess old Rosebud still works. Though I've never really gotten it to work for me with the Sims 2. There are a couple more cheats for money in the game. If you type help into the cheat window, you will see one called familyfunds. I've not managed to get this one to work either, but you might want to look at all the cheats listed there.

The cheat that I use the most for increasing the money is:

motherlode

This will give your Sims about $50000 each time you type this word into the cheat window. I'll assume that you already know how to bring up the cheat window. The same as Sims 1:

CTRL-Shift-C

If you spell motherlode or any other cheat incorrectly, the window will extend & you will get an error message. To re-shrink the window type in:

expand

To close the window type in:

exit

There are lots of cheats for the Sims 2. Though with some of them, you will have to be careful using. I'd recommend going to look at Snootysims site for a list of cheats. Here is the link:

At least I seem to remember them having a list. But I haven't been there for quite awhile.

Of course, there are several sites around that have hacked objects. Just remember to only use the hacks that are for the expansion pack or packs that you have. Always try & check to see if they have been updated for newer packs.

Also keep in mind the difference between the Sims 1 & Sims 2. The objects are now real 3D objects, just like the people. As well, both the people & objects are much more complicated that the ones in the Sims 1. If you get into collecting the New Mesh items, you will find that you must have the original New Mesh base, as well as the recolours in the game for them to work. Also the New Mesh Objects are again different, than the New Meshes for the Clothing, Hair & Glasses/Accessories.

For the Objects, all you need is the original New Mesh Object Base & the Object will work. It will 'Carry' it's own texture, within the file. But this doesn't apply to the Recolours of the New Mesh Objects, as there are just the textures. They won't work without the Original New Mesh Base.

Of course you don't have to worry about the Recolours of the Default Objects, as their bases are in the game. Oh & each New Mesh Object will have it's own unique ID number (at least they will if they were made correctly).

As to the New Mesh People stuff, well this is again different. For these you will have to have both the New Mesh, plus a seperate texture. As the textures aren't attached within the New Mesh Bases for the clothing, hair, etc (unlike the Ojbects). They don't have a unique ID code either. So if you end up with a texture in your game without it's matching New Mesh Clothing, etc. Base, it will just show up as a Default item. You won't know which it is. It's very annoying & there isn't anyway around this either. Not even the program SimPE will help with the People stuff. Though SimPE can help you sort out the Object problems because of the ID codes.

Keep in mind that not every creator, includes the bases with their stuff. So be very careful with your 'stuff collecting' or you'll end up with a big headache. Been there, done that! The good thing with the Sims 2 (at least once you get beyond the base game), you can put all your stuff into lots of Sub-Folders. Plus more Sub-Sub-Folders. Keep organized!

Anyway, have fun. Once you get used to playing Sims 2, I'd really recommend getting Pets & Seasons. You will just love the dogs, cats & the great weather! Bye for now. SEJ
